Designers beg Gemini for lossless PNG export as forced JPEG compression breaks workflows
Effective_Score4218 · reddit · 2026-08-27
A paying Gemini Advanced subscriber and professional designer posted on Reddit that the latest update forces generated images into a compressed JPEG pipeline, creating a critical bottleneck for pro work: visible compression artifacts on delicate contours, foliage and fine hair, loss of color depth and dynamic range, and files unusable in Photoshop, fine-art print and 300 DPI upscaling pipelines.
They propose an "Export Quality Toggle": fast web-optimized JPEG/WebP previews by default, plus a lossless, uncompressed full-depth PNG "production master" for Advanced subscribers — and call on designers, photographers and digital artists to upvote and comment to escalate the issue to engineering and product teams.
