Neurosurgeons in London have performed the world's first successful AI-assisted operation to remove a brain tumor. The AI system analyzed live camera footage during the surgery to identify critical anatomical structures, such as nerves and blood vessels, that must be avoided. This real-time guidance helped surgeons navigate the brain's complex "cornrows" to remove an 11mm tumor from a 48-year-old patient's pituitary gland. The patient recovered his sight fully, was able to walk independently within a week, and has returned to work. The procedure took place in May at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
