Meta to pay $16.68B to settle claims over addicting kids and harvesting data

Meta has agreed to pay up to $16.68 billion to settle claims from 29 US states that it designed Facebook and Instagram to addict children and harvested their data without consent. Upcoming measures include daily usage limits for minors, nighttime blocks, and tighter age-gating. Meta denies wrongdoing, and its stock rose 2.3%.
