MCP solved access, but A2A solves the economics of data

The author argues that while MCP solved the access problem for agents, it did not solve the economics, especially for expensive institutional financial data. Instead of a user holding an entitlement to a whole dataset, an agent should be able to purchase the specific answer it needs.

The author shares their experience building A2A (Agent-to-Agent) finance agents using x402 for payments and MCP for infrastructure. They believe A2A is economically superior for B2C, even if MCP is more convenient and currently more lucrative for providers.
