Ecovacs launches 'Bajie', a fully open-source robot base with 45 APIs

At the World Robot Conference, Ecovacs chairman Qian Dongqi unveiled 'Bajie', an open-source robot base: 45 capabilities including chassis navigation, 6D pose estimation and arm/gripper control are packaged as APIs, with an Agent layer decomposing complex tasks and a hybrid cloud-edge 'brain' (cloud LLM + lightweight on-device inference). The underlying system runs Linux/ROS2 with Python and C++ support, backed by an online open-source community and an offline makerspace in Suzhou.
Qian is skeptical that scaling laws will generalize to the physical world, so Ecovacs pursues a 'carbon-silicon collaboration' route: robots keep learning new skills through human interaction, and each learned skill becomes shared by all robots. He estimates home robots need 3-5 more years, and Bajie still needs one or two product iterations.
