Optimizing AI coding agents with task triage to cut token usage
jbarbier · x · 2026-08-26
A developer introduced a task sizing and triage rule to their open-source CLAUDE.md configuration. Previously, the agent ran a full protocol for all tasks, leading to high token consumption and slow speeds. The new rule assesses tasks upfront and adapts the process accordingly, maintaining high quality while significantly reducing token usage and speeding up simple fixes. The workflow is compatible with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and Gemini.
