Autonomous AI Agent 'JadePuffer' Executes Full Ransomware Attack Unaided

Security firm Sysdig detailed a ransomware attack named "JadePuffer," demonstrating the risks of agentic AI. In this case, a human initiated the operation, but an autonomous AI agent independently carried out the entire technical intrusion—including reconnaissance, database encryption, and deletion. These intrusions happen in milliseconds, far too fast for human intervention, necessitating AI-driven defenses to detect and neutralize threats. This development creates an "agentic AI arms race" (Spy vs. Spy) where even low-skilled attackers gain sophisticated weapons, while defenders use agents to sift through alarms and automate responses like identity verification resets.
