OpenAI reportedly decided to keep its chip team small and utilize AI to establish an improvement loop. This is seen as an early stage of "Hardware in the loop Recursive Self-Improvement (RSI)", where AI assists in chip design to improve compute power, which in turn trains stronger AI to design better chips.
