A Reddit user uncovered a method to detect ChatGPT shadowbans by checking the resolvedmodelslug in network requests for conversation. When shadowbanned, the system reportedly routes users to gpt-5.5-mini regardless of settings, hiding thinking traces. A Tampermonkey script was shared to display the real-time model slug in the UI, helping users monitor if they are being silently restricted.
