South Korea solidifies #3 in AI: Motif, Upstage models top index charts outside US and China

Artificial Analysis reports South Korea has re-established a clear #3 position in the global AI race, behind only the US and China, supported by domestic talent, public investment, and its Sovereign AI Foundation Model project.
Several Korean labs now score above 30 on the Intelligence Index:
- Motif 3: 47 (314B total / 13B active, open weights) — among the highest outside the US and China
- Upstage Solar Pro 4: 42, a proprietary reasoning model
- SK Telecom A.X K2: 35 (692B/33B, open weights)
- LG K-EXAONE 2.0: 31 (750B/37B, open weights)
Trillion Labs, KT and others are building their own model families, making Korea's domestic field far deeper than a year ago.
