67% chance any state enacts a data center moratorium by end of year
Polymarket · x · 2026-08-26
Polymarket shows a 67% chance that any U.S. state will enact a statewide moratorium on new data centers by December 31, 2026.
A qualifying moratorium must prohibit, suspend, or pause the approval, permitting, construction, grid connection, or operation of new data centers. New York established a precedent in July 2026 with a pause on hyperscale data centers over 50 MW, and Texas halted new grid connections pending an audit.
