Exolabs achieves data-center bandwidth on Mac clusters via Thunderbolt 5 RDMA
StefanoGogioso · x · 2026-08-26
Exolabs, featured on Apple's M5 Ultra pages, revealed a year-long collaboration to enable low-latency RDMA networking over Thunderbolt 5. This allows clusters of Mac Studios to scale aggregate memory bandwidth linearly, reaching 4.8TB/s with 4x M5 Ultra units—speeds previously exclusive to data center GPUs. The setup enables running massive models like Kimi K3 and GLM-5.3 locally at API speeds.
