Study Finds LLMs Rely on Morphology Over Real Knowledge in Medical Advice

Researchers at UT Austin, Northeastern, and UT MD Anderson found that LLMs often lack drug-specific knowledge and instead rely on morphology to sound knowledgeable. Because OLMo is open, they were able to trace exactly why this happens. The work was featured on the Ai2 blog, and a related paper was accepted to #EMNLP2026.
