M5 Ultra Studio pricing is wonderfully broken: 2-3x DGX Spark value for local AI
SumitGup · x · 2026-08-26
The new M5 Ultra Studios' MSRP has completely upended consumer AI system economics, measured as (model-hosting memory × memory speed) / system cost.
Memory size and speed per dollar is 2-3x+ that of DGX Spark and Strix Halo, and these machines will likely resell at 1.5x MSRP quickly. Competing systems won't get cheaper, so Studios will price up toward market value, much like M5 laptops did. Plenty is debatable about which hardware fits you, but the initial economics are "quite wonderfully broken."
