AMD MI455X confirmed as last copper generation; Nvidia cooling slashes power to 10%

At Hot Chips 2026, AMD reiterated that the MI455X is the final full copper (scale-up) rack generation and explained its rationale for using UALoE (UA over Ethernet) to leverage the mature switch ecosystem. Meanwhile, Nvidia showcased a reference cooling design claiming to reduce cooling power consumption to 10% of total datacenter power, down from the current 40%.
