Google published a paper on WeatherNext, an AI model for global weather forecasting developed by Google DeepMind and Google Research. To handle extreme storms, they built WeatherNext Cyclones to bridge global patterns and local details. During the 2025 hurricane season, the U.S. National Hurricane Center used AI models in real-time operations for the first time. Forecasters used WeatherNext to predict Hurricane Melissa's Category 5 landfall in Jamaica five days in advance.
