Apple Unveils M6-Powered Mac mini with Local AI Performance Up 13.5x

Apple has released the new Mac mini and Mac Studio, featuring the first 2nm M6 chip and the M5 Pro/Max/Ultra series, with a significant focus on enhancing local AI computing capabilities. The new Mac mini's LLM prompt processing speed is up to 4.8x faster than the M4 version, while the M5 Pro model supports Thunderbolt 5 multi-machine clustering for running larger models. The Mac Studio M5 Ultra introduces a four-die architecture for the first time, boosting AI performance by up to 9.8x compared to the previous generation.
Apple's official website highlights local support for domestic LLMs like DeepSeek, Kimi, and GLM. Additionally, reports confirm that Apple is jointly training large models with Alibaba, integrating Tongyi Qianwen capabilities into Apple Intelligence to accelerate its launch in China. Apple is also expected to hold a fall event in September, potentially unveiling the first foldable iPhone, the iPhone 18 Pro series, and AirPods 5.
