Apple goes all-in on local AI: M5 Ultra hits 512GB unified memory, Mac mini from $899

Apple announced the M6 and M5 Ultra chips, pushing hard on local AI. The M5 Ultra Mac Studio starts at $5,499 with 1TB storage; the new Ultra Fusion architecture fuses two M5 Max dies with 4.4TB/s chiplet bandwidth, scaling to 36 CPU cores, 80 GPU cores, 1.2TB/s memory bandwidth, and up to 512GB of unified memory. The M6 is a fully new chip in the Mac mini ($899 with 256GB storage), with an M5 Pro model at $1,699 and 512GB storage.
