Apple launched M6 and M5 Ultra chips to advance local AI inference. The M5 Ultra Mac Studio supports up to 512GB of unified memory, enabling entire on-device execution of hundreds of billions of parameter LLMs.
M6 debuts on Mac mini as Apple's first 2nm chip with a 12-core CPU and Dual 16-core Neural Engine. M5 Ultra combines two M5 Max dies via UltraFusion, offering 80 GPU cores and 1.2TB/s bandwidth, a 50% increase over M3 Ultra. The new Macs also support Thunderbolt 5 clustering with RDMA for distributed inference.
