The 2026 AI for Science conference closed in Beijing with 50 CAS/CAE academicians attending. Academician E Weinan called it "the best opportunity in China's tech innovation history, period."
Ecosystem: Beijing hosts 15,000 AI scholars (30% of China's total) and 148 AI2000-listed researchers; 225 registered large models and a ¥450B core AI industry. Sixteen flagship AI4S cases span five layers—scientific data, models, autonomous labs, applications, and ecosystem—including the Panshi science foundation model, an all-atom microscopic life model, the DPA atomic model covering 90 elements, and the Bohr research platform with 4.5M+ users.
Policy: China's first provincial AI4S action plan (2025–2027) and a 2026–2028 implementation plan target a globally influential AI4S hub by 2028; a national autonomous-lab standard has been filed, and Haidian will build a 1.6M m² AI4S innovation cluster.
