Tutorial: Edit Videos With ChatGPT via Codex and the Free ChatCut Plugin
TawohAwa · x · 2026-08-25
The author shares a tutorial on editing videos with ChatGPT desktop + Codex + the free ChatCut plugin, claiming the results look professionally edited, preserve your style, and auto-resize for every platform.
Steps:
- Download the ChatGPT desktop app, sign in, select Codex from the sidebar, and start a new chat.
- Install the ChatCut plugin by pasting the prompt "Read [URL] and install the ChatCut plugin", then create a free ChatCut account.
- Upload your video, optionally adding extra clips, images, a logo, background music, or a voiceover. ChatGPT renders it on an editable timeline, and you keep iterating just by chatting.
- When satisfied, type "Export the final video as a high-quality MP4" — you can also ask for separate versions for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, or LinkedIn.
Notes: a ChatGPT Plus/Pro subscription is required (only the plugin is free); if ChatCut doesn't appear after install, restart the desktop app and open a new Codex conversation. A step-by-step YouTube video is also provided.
