Opinion: LLMs Need Human-like Theory of Mind for Good Coding
joshua_saxe · x · 2026-08-25
Joshua Saxe argues that getting LLMs to write truly well may require developing a rich mirror neuron-based theory of mind like humans. He deems this extremely hard, possibly requiring embodiment, noting that RLHF, pretraining, and SFT seem insufficient. He also suggests that trying to make LLMs pass as human-like minds might be misguided; having them deliver progress while talking like 'slop robots' may be optimal.
