German State in Talks with Tesla to Deploy Autonomous Shuttles in Rural Areas

Germany's Brandenburg transport minister Robert Crumbach confirmed the state is in talks with Tesla about deploying driverless shuttles, to be integrated into the existing on-demand bus system, especially in rural areas.

Crumbach cited a concrete problem: in some low-demand regions regular buses run only twice a day or not at all, and drivers are scarce. Once legal approvals are in place, he sees wide-scale deployment of autonomous shuttles across rural Brandenburg as feasible. Commentators note this is the first time robotaxis expand beyond ride-hailing into a public-transport infrastructure play, potentially connecting tens of millions in the US and Europe with poor transit access.
