Pew study of 500K pages: over a third published since ChatGPT show AI-written text

The Pew Research Center analyzed nearly half a million English-language web pages for signs of AI-generated text. More than a third of pages published since ChatGPT's launch show signs of machine-written content.

The domain gap is striking: commercial .com sites are ten times more likely to contain AI content than .edu or .gov domains, indicating AI-generated text is heavily concentrated in commercial web pages.
