A power user of Minimax H3 shares findings on "optimal steps," challenging the notion that more steps equal better quality:
- Findings: Generating a Castle TV show scene, the sweet spot was around 31-32 steps (1.0mpx + 15s). Beyond 35 steps, quality degraded, becoming "overcooked."
- Analysis: There are three regimes: under-resolved, optimal, and over-resolved. Once key structures settle, extra steps don't refine the result usefully; instead, they push it toward learned priors, causing unnatural crispness or stereotypes.
- Variables: The optimal point depends on duration, resolution, scene complexity, references, CFG, and samplers. Fixed rules (e.g., "use 32-40 steps") don't generalize.
