Self-paced GitHub curricula have near-zero completion due to lack of accountability

Based on 8 years of observing 7,500 students, the author notes that following self-paced curricula often leads to 'tutorial purgatory.' Students who actually shipped projects did so under pressure with a live instructor, deadlines, and accountability. Knowledge is free, but the stakes and oversight aren't.
