OpenAI contributes Git upstream optimizations for large monorepos
charliermarsh · x · 2026-08-24
OpenAI has contributed multiple patches to the upstream Git project aimed at optimizing large repositories. Key highlights include concurrent packfile-uri download fixes merged into master, enabling reachability bitmaps and delta islands during path-walk, and fixing sparse-index expansion performance regressions (reducing time from 18.87s to 0.06s). Additionally, 20 more patches are in progress within OpenAI's fork to improve partial clone maintenance and tracing.
