Tesla FSD talk reveals end-to-end training works like the human brain learning to drive

A new Tesla FSD technical talk reveals, for the first time, details of how the company trains its end-to-end AI model — and it turns out to mirror how humans learn.
When learning to drive, the conscious cortex obsesses over instructor cues: lane centering, stop signs, traffic lights. That overload makes early driving poor, but the practice is effectively training unconscious brain regions (basal ganglia, cerebellum) to take over. After many hours, the brain has essentially encoded an end-to-end neural network that drives without much conscious direction. Tesla trains its end-to-end model with exactly this cortex-guided-practice-style mechanism.
