DRAM Shortage Drives AI Server Price Hikes Over 15%, ODM Margins Under Pressure
新智元 · wechat · 2026-08-24
Major Nvidia customers have been notified by ODMs that AI server prices will rise by over 15%, effective early 2027. The hike is driven not by GPUs but by a severe shortage and surge in DRAM prices. TrendForce reports Q1 2026 DRAM contract prices nearly doubled, with Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron holding 90% market share. Nvidia's upcoming Rubin GPU requires 288GB of HBM4 per unit, significantly increasing BOM costs. As a result, ODM giant Quanta saw gross margins dip below 5% despite record revenue, prompting a shift to customer-supplied component models to offset volatility.
