SweetFold Diffusion Model Tackles the Nightmare of Glycan Structure Prediction

While AlphaFold revolutionized protein structure prediction, sugars (glycans) remain a challenge due to their branching, stereochemistry, and flexibility. A new bioRxiv preprint introduces SweetFold, a diffusion model specifically built for this chemistry. Instead of treating glycans as small-molecule ligands, SweetFold represents them as pseudo-polymers, explicitly encoding monosaccharides, anomeric states, glycosidic connectivity, and local stereochemistry to handle their complexity.
