Pushing back on the idea that humanoid robots are the inevitable direction of robotics automation, one commenter cites Amazon as a counterexample: as one of the biggest investors in robotics and industrial automation, Amazon deploys exactly 0 humanoids and invests <1% of its total robotics spend in the technology.
The argument: the driving philosophy of automation is form engineered to optimally perform the function — Amazon's millions of robots look like what they do, not like humans. Humanoids are a cool consumer product, not the optimal industrial solution.
