Developer rebuilds Mozilla's Orbit as a local, private AI summarizer called Apogee
darshi1337 · reddit · 2026-08-24
Following the discontinuation of Mozilla's cloud-based AI browser summarizer Orbit, developer Darshi1337 has rebuilt it from scratch as Apogee, a local alternative focused on privacy. Apogee processes data locally without sending it to servers, connecting directly to local Ollama instances. It also integrates WebGPU and Transformers.js for faster inference.
Key Features:
- Summarizes articles, websites, YouTube, and Reddit threads.
- Runs entirely locally on Chrome and Firefox.
- Source code and installation links are available.
