Proposal to Build Massive AI Data Centers in Northern Alaska
edgarpavlovsky · x · 2026-08-24
A proposal suggests building massive AI data center capacity in Prudhoe Bay, Northern Alaska. Once America's largest oil field, it pumps 180k barrels of crude daily and produces 8 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day. Since pipelines are crude-only and ice blocks ships, the gas is re-injected into the reservoir. The author argues that instead of spending $50b on an export pipeline, this stranded energy should power AI compute infrastructure directly on site.
