Open-source Physical Context Protocol turns old phones into AI senses
Human_Tennis_2950 · reddit · 2026-08-23
The author open-sourced "Soma," an experiment to turn old Android phones into physical senses for AI via MCP over a local LAN.
Key Features:
- Monitoring: Phones detect motion, vibration, and sound, serving images on request.
- Interaction: AI can execute queries like "What happened in the kitchen?" or "Check the garage phone."
- Triggers: Physical events alert the AI, which decides whether to investigate further by requesting images.
Architecture:
- Based on an open Physical Context Protocol (PCP), designed as a generic "nervous system" for future sensors.
- Currently in preview, running entirely locally.
