A discovery on the Wayback Machine reveals that Cursor, now a leading AI code editor, was originally positioned as a CAD Autocomplete tool back in 2021-2022.
According to the archived page, its initial slogan was "An AI assistant for CAD," designed to speed up modeling with automated feature suggestions and provide instant DFM feedback. This indicates the team initially targeted industrial design software before pivoting to the code editor market where they found significant success.
