Dev used Codex to flash FoloToy AI Passport into an offline word-root flashcard deck

By connecting a FoloToy AI Passport over Type-C, a developer used Codex to rewrite the toy's firmware, turning it into a pocket offline word-root flashcard device with Chinese definitions and pronunciation — now open-sourced.

The vocab-passport project ships 600 example word cards (sourced from the open-source word-root memory workshop): flip with two keys, reveal Chinese with the bottom key, and hear each new word aloud. Chinese meanings are hidden by default to avoid spoiling answers; official demo menus were stripped so the device boots straight into card mode — no browser, account, or internet needed. Host tests passed and on-device flashing succeeded on 2026-08-23; clone the repo and flash it yourself.
