Linus fixes kernel bug: AI helped but claimed it was impossible
Fowe · x · 2026-08-23
Linux creator Linus Torvalds personally committed a fix for the Intel Xe graphics driver to resolve a bug causing endless GDM restarts. He described it as a "debug session from hell" where an AI did "much of the grunt-work" but repeatedly stated the issue was "impossible and unsolvable." Linus joked that AIs might be trained by people less stubborn than him, but acknowledged the AI's help in analyzing debug code, eventually allowing him to fix the bug.
