Using Claude to Create 3D Gaussian Splatting Model of Manhattan
psobot · x · 2026-08-23
Inspired by a 3D model of Grace Cathedral, the author photographed Lower Manhattan from the 71st floor of 4 World Trade Center before leaving their job, using over 1,000 photos to create a 3D reconstruction via Gaussian Splatting with Claude's assistance.
- Data Acquisition: Due to drone restrictions, photos were taken manually with a Sony a7c in a near-360º circle, avoiding reflections and privacy issues.
- Tech Stack: Claude was used extensively to assist the workflow; Modal and Cloudflare powered the build and hosting.
- Result: The model works well and is playable directly in mobile browsers.
