Starcloud Raises $250M at $2.3B Valuation for Orbital Compute Bet

Space compute startup Starcloud raised $250 million at a $2.3 billion valuation, with investments from Nvidia and Cisco.
- Core Business: Plans to deploy data center-grade GPUs in orbit. Its Starcloud-1 satellite previously operated an Nvidia H100 in space, training an AI model.
- Risks: The custom chip built with Nvidia is not yet manufactured (expected late 2028), and the rocket it relies on (Falcon 9, retiring in 2028) has not proven it can fly on schedule.
- Market Logic: The high valuation is a bet on the value of flight data rather than existing hardware. Total capital raised since 2024 is $450 million.
