SpaceClaw: Three Chinese Startups Launch Open-Source Space Robot with In-Orbit Validation in 6 Months

Swarm intelligence startup SuperBrain Future, commercial space company Future Astronautics, and soft robotics firm Xiyun Technology have partnered on SpaceClaw, billed as the world's first open-source space embodied-AI project targeting real in-orbit validation, with first-stage in-orbit verification planned within 6 months.
Division of labor: Future Astronautics provides the spacecraft platform and mission support; Xiyun supplies lightweight flexible space manipulators with compliant control; SuperBrain Future provides the core robot brain WorldDreamer-Orbit, a swarm-intelligence world model handling perception, prediction, planning, and dual-arm coordination. In stage one the model only outputs action intents while aerospace-grade controllers execute them, preserving safety boundaries.
OrbitBench benchmark: covers zero-g, LEO microgravity, lunar 0.16g, Martian 0.38g, Earth 1g, and custom gravity, with tasks like dual-arm coordination, spinning-target soft capture, and in-orbit assembly, evaluating cross-gravity generalization and sim2real transfer. The project will progressively open the simulation environment, standard interfaces, training data, and baseline models, aiming to become "the Linux of space embodied AI," with SpaceClaw-II (refueling/docking) and SpaceClaw-III (debris removal, multi-robot ops) planned.
