MCP roadmap: agent-to-agent communication, triggers and events, progressive discovery, DPoP
dsp_ · x · 2026-08-22
The MCP (Model Context Protocol) project published its roadmap for the next 6–12 months. As an open source effort, it's directional rather than committing. Key priorities include:
- Better agent-to-agent communication
- Triggers and events
- Primitives for progressive discovery
- Security improvements such as DPoP
The roadmap also explains SEP prioritization: proposals within priority areas get expedited review and the best acceptance odds; contributors should engage the relevant Working Group before submitting. Each area names responsible Core Maintainers reachable on Discord.
