NVIDIA Releases Newton 1.5: Upgrading Robot Physics Simulation
Olivier__OG · x · 2026-08-22
NVIDIA Robotics has released Newton 1.5, an upgrade to the physics simulation platform for large-scale robot learning. Key improvements include higher parallel simulation, lower memory usage, more consistent contact physics, experimental batched GPU control, and cleaner USD/MJCF imports.
Why it matters:
Robots require millions of interactions and failures to operate reliably. Simulation allows this learning to happen faster, cheaper, and safer. Better simulation enables more training runs, leading to better policies and robots capable of handling complex physical tasks. Physics engines are becoming a critical layer of the robotics stack.
