OpenAI Temporarily Slows Frontier Training to Strengthen Safety

An OpenAI staff member revealed that the company has temporarily slowed some frontier training runs to strengthen security and monitoring. The largest planned frontier RL run remains on hold while smaller-scale training and evaluations help test safeguards and gather evidence of alignment. The employee expects confidence in safety to set the pace of AI development and has signed the Pacing the Frontier initiative.
