OpenAI-Backed Harvey Builds First Model on Moonshot AI's Kimi K3
pstAsiatech · x · 2026-08-22
San Francisco-based legal tech startup Harvey has released its first in-house model, Harvey Tenet, post-trained on top of Chinese lab Moonshot AI's open-weight Kimi K3 base. Previously reliant on closed US models like Anthropic and OpenAI, Harvey's pivot highlights a growing trend of Western tech firms adopting Chinese open-weight systems amid soaring development costs. The company claims the new model achieves state-of-the-art performance in complex legal tasks, offering higher accuracy and lower inference costs through specialized post-training.
