Two papers on LLM user simulation are heading to EMNLP 2026:
- KnowSim (Main): studies how user simulators can model what users know and how that knowledge evolves through interaction, enabling evaluation of whether assistants provide information calibrated to users' evolving understanding.
- Role Vector work (Findings): identifies a user-role direction in LLM activations and shows steering along it mitigates assistant bias and elicits more user-like behavior.
