Tesla charger hacked to spread virus to car and other chargers via cable
Yamapama · x · 2026-08-22
Security researcher @ScepticCtf demonstrated a critical exploit using a Tesla Universal Wall Connector via a charging cable.
Attack Chain:
- Charger Compromise: The Tesla Wall Connector is compromised via the SWCAN protocol on the Control Pilot line of the cable.
- Vehicle Infection: The compromised charger automatically hacks the car's infotainment system over WiFi.
- Cross-Vendor Spread: The infected car then hacks nearby chargers from other brands (Autel MaxiCharger and ChargePoint Home Flex) via Bluetooth.
The exploit shows that a single plug-in event can compromise four vendors with zero clicks after the initial move.
