ColBERT contributor Antoine Chaffin leaves LightOn to join Perplexity

Antoine Chaffin announced he is leaving French AI company LightOn to join Perplexity AI. He said it wasn't an easy decision — LightOn is a great place to work and he's proud of what the team built. Within hours of the announcement he was already doing napkin math on scaling ColBERT to 10–100B-scale indexes, saying he doesn't know whether to be scared or excited but they'll be shipping.
