AI Progress Through 'Lessons of History': Control and Heritage

tokenbender reflects on 'The Lessons of History': progress is increasing control over desired outcomes and transmission of heritage. By that measure, AI is unambiguously progress, but progress is real only if control improves and heritage is transmitted. Are we sure our descendants, starting with zero knowledge, inherit a more desirable world? If not, is that losing all progress?
