Time to integrate AI checks and rethink paper publication norms, economist argues

Economist Joshua Gans, discussing reform of academic publishing, argues we could go further: integrate AI checks into the review and publication process, and break apart the "physical paper" publication norm into something more akin to the modern world, adding that many ideas have already been floated.
He notes he is unsure which organization should coordinate this — perhaps a new coalition is needed — but says it is time to seriously talk about it.
