Dev Observes: OSS Inference Providers Lag Behind OpenAI in Reliability

After integrating both proprietary and open-weight inference providers into a chat interface, a developer observed that providers like Baseten and Together Computing do not yet match OpenAI's reliability. He attributes this mainly to their younger age and lack of experience compared to OpenAI, which has been serving GPT models since 2020.
